A 47-year-old gentleman from Ivory Coast (Western Africa) was admitted to Wockhardt Hospitals, South Mumbai – India. He was a chronic smoker and had severe hypertension. In the past, he had suffered from a massive heart attack a year back. The patient had already undergone a coronary angioplasty with stents for his previous condition. But after 4 months of angioplasty, his ejection fraction was reported 35-37%. This condition of the heart is not considered good for a healthy life.

When the patient interacted with Wockhardt’s international patient services team over the phone/email, he confirmed his treatment and traveled to India. Under the guidance of Dr. Ravi Gupta, a renowned interventional cardiologist at Wockhardt Hospitals –South Mumbai, India, he underwent series of necessary investigations to start the best treatment. His 2D echo report revealed that he had a heart enlargement – a condition known as cardiomyopathy, and left ventricular failure causing valvular dysfunction of the mitral and tricuspid. This was probably causing his heart not to function optimally. Angiography was also carried in the cath lab to further ascertain the patient’s condition. Dr. Ravi Gupta diagnosed his condition as ischemic cardiomyopathy. The patient was given the required medical treatment and care to get his vitals stable. All investigations were repeated and he was strictly monitored. On discharge, Dr. Gupta advised him on diet as well oral treatment to control his hypertension.
