A 63 years old patient from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe was admitted to Wockhardt Hospital, South Mumbai, India with a history of unconsciousness. This was the patient’s fourth episode. The patient had a history of sweating, breathlessness, and chest pain in 2020; he had undergone a heart attack. The patient was a high-risk cardiac case and immediate medical intervention was necessary to prevent further complications. Dr. Ravi Gupta, a Cardiologist at Wockhardt Hospitals, South Mumbai, India, advised detailed cardiac investigations to ascertain the diagnosis. The patient’s cardiac enzymes, Troponin I, and CK were raised.
His ECG showed cardiac changes in the chambers of the heart especially the ventricles and irregular beats. The 2d echo revealed, mitral valvular dysfunction and regurgitation and also signs of myocardial infarction (heart attack). Dr. Ravi Gupta diagnosed the patient with a condition – Left ventricular dysfunction with ventricular arrhythmias.
The patient underwent a Coronary Angiography in the Cath Lab, by Dr. Ravi Gupta with an insertion of an Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (AICD) to regulate his heart functions. The patient was discharged in a stable condition and was asked to monitor his vital stats.
