Anaemia is a condition that develop when a human don't have enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen in their tissues. In anaemia one may experience fatigue and weakness. There are many forms of anaemia, each with its own cause. Iron deficiency is the most common cause of anemia but it accounts for only 50% of the burden of anemia.
Treatments for anemia range from taking supplements to undergoing medical procedures. You may be able to prevent some types of anemia by eating a healthy diet.


How can I know that I have anemia?

The symptoms of anemia are varied and nonspecific like weakness, shortness of breath, dizziness, fast or irregular heartbeat, cold hands or feet, and chest pain. So its best to get your hemoglobin level checked to know if you are having anemia.

Am I at risk of having anemia?

Yes. According to WHO, 42% of adult females and 30% of adult males are anemic in developing countries like India. The prevalence is even higher in children and old age.

Is it enough if I take Iron tablets for anemia?

No. As per international studies, only 50% of anemia is because of iron deficiency. Iron tablets would be useless and in fact could be harmful in other causes of anemia like thalassemia, vitamin b 12 or folic acid deficiency, bone marrow failure syndromes and anemia secondary to chronic diseases.
