Forehead Lift Surgery

A forehead lift (brow lift) is a surgical procedure to change the position of the soft tissues of the forehead to make the appearance of the upper face firm and to reduce the skin sagging in the eyebrows and above the nose. There are different types of brow lifts. A direct brow lift is performed by removing segment of skin and muscle just above the eyebrows. It is typically reserved for older patients or for men with thick eyebrow hair and male pattern baldness. A mid-forehead lift is intended for patients who have heavy sagging eyebrows and the deeper forehead wrinkles. This is advantageous for patients with high hairlines for whom more elevation of the hairline would be undesirable. A coronal forehead lift is performed by making an ear to ear incision across the top of the head and elevating the entire forehead and brow. The advantage of this technique is that incisions are not made on the face. An endoscopic forehead lift, involves the use of instruments along with a surgical endoscope to make small incisions. The advantage of this surgical technique is smaller incisions, less bleeding, and faster healing.

Steps taken:

There are two methods to lift your forehead and eyebrow areas known as Classic lift and Endoscopic lift. The classic lift involves one continuous cut beginning at the level of the ears and going up around the hair line. Depending on where your hair line is, the surgeon works to avoid a visible scar. For the endoscopic lift, the surgeon makes a few shorter cuts in the scalp. With the help of an endoscopic tube the cut are made to make the necessary changes from one end to another. In this procedure anchors are required to secure the tissue. The smaller cuts make this procedure less invasive, minimally scarred and shorter recovery period it is popular.

Surgeon evaluates the forehead region, including your upper eyelids, paying attention to the muscles. The surgeon needs to evaluate the series of facial expressions of the patient to understand the requirements and based on the type shall decide which procedure to follow. The surgery takes less than two hours, and one day hospitalisation is required.

Most of the time, the surgeon will use local anaesthesia. But in certain patients general anaesthesia may be used. Once the operation is over, the incisions are closed with stitches or staples and after cleaning the dressing and bandage is necessary.

Advantage:

Forehead lift surgeries are cosmetic surgeries for younger looking appearance by reducing the wrinkles on the forehead make the sagging skin appear firmer.

Precautions:

Patient must share the entire medical history with the doctor. All the physiological parameters must be stable and within limits. The concomitant diseases like diabetes, hypertension must be within control limits. Patient must abstain from smoking and drinking Patient must inform the surgeon if he is on any blood thinning medication. This medication needs to be stopped before surgery to reduce bleeding episode and faster healing. For instance, if you smoke, your surgeon may ask you to stop at least temporarily. You may also have to avoid alcohol and certain medications. If you regularly take an aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drug, your surgeon will ask you to stop taking these for a certain period of time before the surgery. These drugs can cause increased bleeding and should be avoided. It's very important to follow your surgeon's instructions on how to care for the incision and how frequently to change the bandages.
